19 Nov: Building a Better Fishtrap / A’we deh ya (“All of us are here”) at The Movement Lab at Barnard College

This week, Virgin Islanders and Stateside Angela's Pulse collaborators are gathering daily for virtual creative process, research and development of A'we deh ya ("All of us are here"), a multi-disciplinary call-and-response between colony and mainland. This iteration of Building A Better Fishtrap focuses on Paloma's homeland St. Croix.

02 Apr: The Space of Us: Reflections on Angela’s Pulse Visioning Retreats

This season we’ve embarked on a series of Angela’s Pulse Visioning Retreats to discuss Engagement and Collaborative Process, Fellowship and Leadership. Joya Powell, 2015 – 2016 Dancing While Black Fellow and Angela’s Pulse Core Collaborator, reflected on these gatherings.

09 Mar: Dance Black Joy: Global Affirmations and Defiance

In February, A. Nia Austin-Edwards, a longtime Angela's Pulse collaborator, attended Dance Black Joy: Global Affirmations and Defiance. The 3-day convening was a dynamic space of dialogue, performance and celebration; she reflected some voices and residue from the experience in poetry.

Building a Better Fishtrap

Since 2011, Caribbean-born choreographer Paloma McGregor has been developing Building A Better Fishtrap , a performance project rooted in the vanishing fishing tradition of her 93-year-old father. The project examines what happens when you leave your ancestral home: What do you take with you? Leave behind? Return to reclaim?

Dancing While Black

Dancing While Black is an artist-led initiative that supports the diverse work of Black dance artists by cultivating platforms for process, performance, dialogue and documentation.

Follow the Water Walks

FOLLOW THE WATER WALKS is a collaboration between choreographer Paloma McGregor and environmental educator Damian Griffin, in consultation with ecologist Becky Boger. Together, they are developing interdisciplinary methods for engaging communities with their natural and man made landscapes using mapping, science and dance.
