This evening features the latest generation of Urban Bush Women – Maria Bauman/MBDance, Marjani Forte/LoveForte (with Nia Love), Paloma McGregor/Angela’s Pulse and Samantha Speis – who present their own brazen dance works as part of Dancing While Black, an artist-led initiative by Paloma McGregor/Angela’s Pulse. Dancing While Black aims to create platforms for process, dialogue and experimentation and to shift the power of contextualizing work and articulating aesthetic values into the hands, and bodies, of black dancers themselves.
The dance concert will be preceded by a panel discussion with former Urban Bush Women Marlies Yearby and Christal Brown, curator Shalonda Ingram of New York Live Arts and Milta Vega-Cardona, a NY-based trainer for the Undoing Racism workshops of New Orleans-based People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond.
