Join us for an evening of bold, new dance works deeply rooted in Africanist aesthetics and pushing the bounds of performance. For two nights only, four black women choreographers - representing three generations of creative practice - share work at the intersection of tradition and experimentation. What results transcends category and centers on our humanity.

“(Dancing While Black) includes all of us and all of the ways that we might imagine movement to transform us individually and fuel our collective.”

-Aimee Meredith Cox, The Feminist Wire

Dancing While Black: On Fertile Ground is presented by New York-based Angela’s Pulse and New Orleans-based Junebug Productions. This initiative engages three generations of Black women choreographers from across the nation with New Orleans communities, culture bearers, and Black college students. Through workshops, site-responsive performance, and work-in-progress showings, collaborators will explore art making practices for social movement building. This cultural exchange is rooted in the past and present legacy of Black creative change-making in New Orleans.
